Male factor infertility is far more common than most people realise, yet it remains surrounded by silence, stigma, and shame. Despite affecting nearly half of all infertility cases, the emotional impact on men is rarely discussed.
For Shaun Greenaway, the journey began with a diagnosis of azoospermia — a condition in which no sperm are present in the semen. What followed was a period of shock, grief, and self-questioning that many men experience but few talk about.
A Journey Few Men Speak About
Those first few months after diagnosis were some of the most isolating of Shaun’s life. The language of infertility is so often centred on women that men can feel invisible within their own experience.
He struggled to find relatable stories or spaces where he could speak openly about what he was going through. It was only through connecting with others — and eventually becoming a father to donor-conceived twins — that Shaun began to transform pain into purpose.
From Silence to Support
Today, Shaun is a leading male fertility advocate and co-founder of NeXYs Fertility, an organisation reshaping how men access fertility support.
After realising how little guidance existed for men following an infertility diagnosis, he helped create a platform that combines expert-led advice with a strong peer-to-peer community. In this place, men can share their stories, ask questions, and find genuine support.
Through his platform Knackered Knackers, Shaun uses honesty and humour to dismantle the stigma around male infertility. His openness has helped countless men feel less alone and more empowered in their journeys.

Changing the Conversation
One of the biggest barriers to supporting men through infertility is the lack of open discussion. Many feel pressure to remain stoic or fear that talking about emotions will make them appear weak.
