There’s a phrase I hear all the time from people struggling to conceive or have a baby:

“I think we’ll just see what happens.”

Sometimes, waiting is absolutely the right decision. But sometimes “we’ll see what happens” actually means:

I have no idea what to do next.

​

Maybe you’re unsure whether you’ve had the right fertility tests. You’ve been told everything looks “fine”, but something still doesn’t add up. You’re wondering whether to have another round of IVF at the same fertility clinic, get a second opinion, change clinics or explore fertility treatment abroad.

Or perhaps you’ve researched so much that you now have 47 tabs open on your phone – and somehow feel less clear than when you started.

In this short solo episode, I’m talking about the difference between choosing to wait and being stuck in fertility limbo – and how to start working out what your next step should be.

What should you do when you’re struggling to conceive and don’t know what to do next?

​

Rather than trying to solve your entire fertility journey at once, I’ll take you through some of the questions that can help you identify where you’re actually stuck.

​

We’ll look at:

• Whether there could be gaps in the fertility testing you’ve already had

• Why understanding why a treatment has been recommended matters

• What to consider before having another round of IVF at the same clinic

• When getting a second opinion on fertility treatment could be useful

• Whether you’re staying with your current fertility clinic because it’s right for you – or simply because it’s familiar

• When it might be worth considering a different fertility clinic or treatment approach

• Fertility treatment in the UK versus fertility treatment abroad

• Why the next step isn't always IVF

• How to identify the information you actually need to make your next fertility decision

Because when you’re overwhelmed by fertility testing, treatment options, clinic recommendations and conflicting information, you don’t necessarily need to have all the answers.

You need to know what question you need answered next.

​

That could mean investigating your fertility further.

It could mean getting a second opinion.

​

It could mean asking why previous IVF treatment hasn’t worked and whether anything should change before another round.

​

It could mean staying with your current clinic, changing fertility clinics, continuing to try naturally, exploring donor conception or considering IVF abroad.

​

There isn’t one fertility pathway that makes sense for everybody. The important question is:

What actually makes sense for you from here?
